Cubism Dream [Daytrotter] by Local Natives

Local Natives released their debut album Gorilla Manor in 2010.
Their single Airplanes brought them a lot of attention in Holland.

Since 2009 Local Natives have played a bunch of shows in Holland and i still haven't seized the opportunity to see them live.
You could find it strange but i'm a bit annoyed that i haven't been to a Local Natives concert, especially because it's not as if i didn't get my chance to see them live.

Clothing money, concert money and bad planning.
I could have seen them at least four times, if those three things weren't that big an issue to deal with.

I'm typing this because i still find Gorilla Manor such a beautiful album and seeing them live would be amazing beautiful.

Even though i can't wait to her new stuff, my Gorilla Manor crush is still very much alive. No actually that crush is love now.
I don't know the precise details because i haven't been reading any Local Natives news, but they will release their sophomore album somewhere in 2012.

Regrets collect like old friends

Without things to do i don't have that much to share expect the book i'm reading or the film i've watched.
That's not really worth sharing sharing the music i've been listening to is worth sharing.

The Civil Wars - I've Got This Friend

I saw them on Later live a few weeks ago, i only wanted to see Laura Marling but they started singing and i was mesmerized.
Only i kep forgetting their name, something with wars maybe cold wars...

I've got this friend, I don't think you know her
She sings a simple song that sounds a lot like his
I've got this friend holding onto her heart
Like it's a little secret, like it's all she's got to give

Oh, if the right one came
If the right one came along
Oh, if the right one came along

Their voice together are so beautiful, i really hope to see them live next year. For the time being i can always purchase their Poison&Wine EP.

Wednesday

In the moment

Bombay Bicycle Club - Lights Out, Words Gone

It was as if she was incapable of enjoying pleasurable experiencing as they were happening?

She could only enjoy things as an anticipation or as memory.

Being tempted when crocery shopping and coming home with stuff you don't feel like eating?

Finding the books everybody talks very highly about only to not read the last chapters or read them at all.

Making long nights and early morning at school for the feeling of satisfaction you'll have afterwards

Going to a festival you've been looking forward to and not really enjoying yourself.
When you get home and find a piece of confetti in your clothes, all you think of it is being one of the most marvellous night you've had.

I just finished watching the film'My last 5 girlfriends' and it was okay.
One of the girlfriends seems to not be capable of enjoying herself when things are actually happening.

I though that sounded weird only to realise i do the same thing sometimes.
Within the moment you just have to enjoy everything about it because that exact moment will never happen again.

Tuesday

When I was 14 I thought people in their twenties were old

Now that I'm in my twenties, people in their thirties are old.
This will change.

Florence + The Machine - Shake It Out

Last week i was the adult at home while my parents were on holiday.
Only problem was i didn't even have the guts make the rules clear to my brother.
That resulted in him spending all of our grocery money and the house being a mess.

Being an "adult" when you don't feel like one is one long awkward trip.
Oh and my lost year isn't making it any easier either!

it's amazing how many other like minded people there are on tumblr.
Images from fuck! i'm in my twenties

Florence + The Machine's new album 'Ceremonials' is out end this month.
Tonight you'll be able to watch Florence's last European show live as it stream from the website around 9.15 UK time.

Too bad i'll have to miss it because i have to be an adult and go to work...

Wednesday

Something i planned to watch

six months ago i made this list of 50 films i wanted to see this year.
I've have a long way to go because i've only seen:

happythankyoumoreplease
From Prada to Nada
Hanna
Your Highness
Arthur
I Am Number Four
Diary of a Wimpy Kid
The King's Speech
Beastly

I loved Hanna and I Am Number Four. The rest was okay.
Your Highness was terrible. Even with Franco, Deschanel and Portman in it, i though it was a let down.

Monday

The booklist

Lykke Li - Unchained Melody

fast forward to 0.36 for the beautiful Lykke Li's version

There used to be a time where i would spend more hours reading than sleeping and i miss that magical sleep depriving time of my life.
A few weeks ago i decided to stop borrowing my little sisters library pass and get my own.

It cost me €26 and even with the €10 discount it's a pricey piece of plastic but worth it. It means less hassle for me and my little sister who i think needs to be reading more.
I brought home the following books

Vile Bodies (Evelyn Waugh)
The tales of Beedle the Bard (J.K. Rowling)
Franny and Zooey (J.D. Salinger)
Bad Girl (Justine Lévy)
Life on the Refrigerator (Alice Kuipers)

Only 4 days, if it comes after the weekend, 7 days till payday and i already know what i'm going to buy AFTER paying my bills.
I've been wanting a journal to write down all the books i've read.
Even more after i forgot the title and author of a book and it took me a few years to remember (The temple of the golden pavilion by Yukio Mishima) so a Moleskine book journal will be a very useful thing for me to have.

This will be the list of books i hope to be writing down in my brand new book journal.

Sunday

Hello again

The Weeknd - Initiation

A late saturday night or an early sunday morning post, call it what you like because it's almost time to say bye to this weekend again.
How fast time can fly while your doing things.
Even when you're aren't doing anything your doing something and in my opinion time seems to go faster when your doing nothing!

I got a test for you.
You said you where my heart…but baby you can have it all,
there’s just something that I need from you.

'Initiation' is the new song off of the new The Weeknd mixtape 'Echoes of Silence…'
After the release of The Weeknd second EP 'Thursday' i thought i heard enough and that 'House of Balloons' was the only The Weeknd EP that could impress me.
The tracks from 'Thursday'sounded all the same to me, but this 'Initiation'is one beast of a song
I can't wait to hear the rest of the mixtape!

Onvervreemdbaar

Ane Brun - Do You Remember.

Dit wordt ons niet ontnomen: lezen,
en ademloos het blad omslaan,
ver van de dagelijksheid vandaan.
Die lezen mogen eenzaam wezen.

Zij waren het van kind af aan.

Hen wenkt een wereld waar de groten,
de tijdelozen, voortbestaan.
Tot wie wij kleinen mogen gaan;
de enigen die ons nooit verstoten.

I always think i'll get to see that artist next time, it's al right.
Picnic at night, Jagerland , Rauw and a melkweg date.
Four missed chances in four years.

I need to start really living before i regret not doing that either.
Me typing that from my couch is worth an eye roll, but i am going to start living and doing, just watch this blog.
You will read good things in the near future.

Such hope...

Peggy Sue: Cut My Teeth

Almost two week ago i was rushing to the cinema and there the above was.
Glowing big and bright up in the air, words that can only give a pessimist more faith in his way of thinking.

I googled and found it was a light sculpture from Filip Gilissen, a Sint-Lukas University College of Art & Design in Brussels student.
10 x 12 m, 1000 lightbulbs , 40.000 watt and boy it was bright.

Cut My Teeth is the first free track of the new Peggy Sue album 'Acrobats'.
Their second album after the amazing 2010 debut 'Fossils and other Phantoms'
For the release of their new album they're doing a little tour but only UK dates.

From their 2010 tour i missed them at Walk The Line festival but managed to catch the last 20 minutes at Lowlands a few months later.
I even bought a t-shirt and managed to have a quick chat with one of them.

Here's hoping there touring schedule will include Holland

Mimi wo sumaseba

Dutch Uncles - X-O

Titel translation: Whisper of the Heart.
I have been watching Studio Ghibli films yesterday and i loved this one.
Oh Shizuku you fantastic fictional character, you will be my hero for this lost year

Did you know the Romans didn't called anything blue?

Wild beasts - Bed of nails (acoustic session) by mouxlaloulouda

For example when they would look up to the sky they would say something like what a beautiful bronze sky instead of calling the sky blue.

I spend last evening watching four hours of QI and that's the only fact i remembered.
The rest will come back to me when i least expect it, just wait for it.

Thursday Cherrelle came to Rotterdam for a little visit and we ended the day at the Store opening of Monki.
Fun crowd and atmosphere but we could only stay for one hour, because i had to go to work.
We missed out on a thrilling game of bingo and who knows what else!
At least they had cute lollipop cakes and delicous cookies we managed to grab before leaving

As a birthday present Cherrelle gave me a garlic squeezer (a little joke) and a one line a day journal.
I had such a Barney Stinson moment realizing people do read my blog even though it's a random blog.

page out of Keep Calm and Carry On book i bought in London a few weeks ago.
A page to remember.

i love her blog

Balam Acab -Oh, Why

exceedingly good keex

Yes i am ashamed because i only musically know Akiko from the big Pink where she plays the drums.
I really should give the other band she plays in Comanechi a listen.

I do like the Comanechi t shirt.

I have no idea how i stumbled onto her blog, it must have been something Klaxons related me being the klaxons fangirl i was at the time.
I'm glad i did find it, food, music, nights outs, randomness, food oh i love scrolling through exceedingly good keex

Thursday

a brand new year...

A Very Potter Sequel - The Coolest Girl

Image taken from flickr via tumblr

September, the month of a new school year and pretty much the end of summer fun.
I'm turning 24 two days from now and i am pretty much dreading the whole obligated birthday party my mother is throwing me.
At least there will be cake!

The song is from A very Potter Sequel and i just love it and Bonnie Gruesen's voice.
If you don't know AVPS is the second Harry Potter musical made by StarKid Productions.
The first one was 'A Very Potter Musical' oh the songs, the jokes, the quotes Team Starkid all the way!

Wednesday

Ding, ding, ding went the bell

Seeing the big Kasabian banner a few stops from the London Libary with their December date in 02 areana was a bit of a woah.
Switchblade smiles is an amazing song.
Album number four already and they are still good.

Joy Division - Novelty

How did H&M get the legal rights to use the artwork?
After The Beatles, The Rolling Stones and Blond t-shirt we now have a funny tshirt of Joy Divisions 'Unknown Pleasures' artwork

I got into Joy Division after watching 24 hour party people (brilliant film i highly recommend it if you like music) and people on dj forum being fans.
I really got into Joy Division after watching Anton Corbijn's film 'Control'.
What a film

After all this time i finally bought this necklace in the final sale.
Not a birthday present, but part of my birthday presents because i never get what i want.

I've never been much of a journal writer but i would definitely write in this one.
One line a day isn't that much a hassle and it's a five year memory journal, nice to have.

Florence + The Machine - What The Water Gave Me

I haven't been sharing alot the past weeks, i blame work and not having enough to share.
Last week this time i was on my way to Lowlands where i was going to be working and experiencing the magical festival fun for free.
This image below was Lowlands art that caught my attention, very day of the death peaceful and sweet.

La danza la memoria

I can't wait for next year.
School wise i'm starting a whole new study next year in Amsterdam if all goes well.
I just need to find a room and that is difficult in Amsterdam, but i just want to go back home so i have faith all will go well.

Saturday i'm going on a four day trip to London with my mother and i can't wait.
The luxury of staying in a hotel instead of a tent hmm total bliss!

New Florence + The Machine sounds so good, i love it!

Renkas - Christabella

Two weeks ago i went to Foam were i saw exhibitions of Willem Popelier (Showroom Girls), Capricious presents: The Continuity of Chaos and Anton Corbijn (Inwards and Onwards).
I went especially for the later and it was nice to see Anton Corbijn's work that up close.
I walked around, watched and did a bit of reading books on display.

The most i did for a while after the bang but i'm going to continue doing stuff!

The Anton Corbijn expo in Foam A'dam i'm going to visit this friday.
A little fun and a bit more art.

The Weeknd - The Birds (Part 1) by The_Weeknd

For the past month and a week my life has been slow, boring and annoyingly fast.
May came to an end for July to begin and school ended with a bang.
As a blow between the ribs taking the breath out of my lungs for a minute came the news that i messed up school again and that i have to wait to hear if i can even fight to continue.
I cried and i'm leaving the rest of my tears for the good or the bad news about this subject.

Now about The Weeknd i have been listening to his amazing album before and after the bang in my life and i fell in love with it.
Check him out!

Decision made

Peter,Bjorn & John -Second Chance

After dreaming and thinking about it i made the decision and i'm going to Sweden for a week next April/May.
Now i just need to:
Save money
Find a hotel
Inform my Swedish relatives so I have someone to show me around.

The last time i saw my Swedish uncle was 6 years ago and my aunt was 5 years ago when they came to Holland.
I never even met their children so i hope there will be a click.

Oh Sweden, i hope that the dream trip i have in my head will be the real real deal

SebastiAn - KINDERCUT

What a lovely day Wednesday i had.
Despite having to race to school, because i didn't hear my alarm clocks for the umpteen time.
After that i came home to get ready for Shrell 's arrival to Rotterdam for our little Rotterdam shopping trip.
You can probably guess it but I fell asleep and had to rush to meet her at Rotterdam central station.

When i arrived the train we needed was just ready to leave but the uber nice train conducteur saw me running so she waited and Shrell and me jumped into the train.
Destination: Primark!

Downside was that there wasn't really that much nice at Primark.
I ended up buying a pair of lovely camel peep toe wedges and a camel coloured handbag.
After Primark it was time for the following

Never before did i see the store that full but it was all good fun.
I even ended up winning a €20 voucher and bought a knee length skirt and metallic brown blazer with it.
Some of the people in the store were good style inspiration, even if i did see my second Amber Rose style copy of the day.
River Island should do things like this more often in Rotterdam, it was good fun.

Friday and Saturday are two complete different days

London Calling is over and i saw enough!
I'm not a critic i just like or don't like some things about music things and talk about them, so here is my opinion.

Day one

Cat's Eyes 'Face In The Crowd' from NTSH London on Vimeo.

Braids
The sound wasn't that excellent but they played convincing enough to make me forget that
Cat's Eyes
didn't come across that well but i liked the record 7
Miami Horror
were a little too glamrock for my liking but energetic fun to watch 5
Trophy Wife
brought good dancey music 7+
Ariel Pink's Haunted Graffiti
I already knew who they were but never bother do get into them.
Maybe now after seeing them live i maybe will because the songs weren't that bad but i just wasn't enjoying it 6.5
Foster the People
saw them in the big screen but the sound didn't come across that good
The View
same good working formula they had four years ago and that's not a bad thing 6+

The Cults - You Know What I Mean from roland q on Vimeo.

Day two

2:54
first thing i thought was they sounded like Blood Red Shoes if Laura May was in another band and never met Steven. Thank gosh Blood Red Shoes do excist but 2:54 has to grow a bit more 6+
Flash Guns
They played the festival last year and i liked the ep that came out that time, now they have a lp coming out and i'm looking forward to listing to it! 7.5
Ra Ra Riot
A band that never really sticked even after listening to 'The Rhumb Line' a few times. Live they came across much better and i was surprised that i enjoyed their performance. 7.5
Dry The River
I heard one song, looked up one perfomance on youtube and i knew i could enjoy this band. I did they were so one point and talked with the audiance.
I'm a fan 8
Cults
Fun but they were a small band playing in the big venue and that made them lost their magic that they have gotten from their internet fame.
'You know what i mean' their new single sounded amazing live, she has a voice on her. 7.
Sparrow and the workshop
You can't like everything and just like 2:54 they need some more time 6-
The Crookes
A perfect band for a festival like this, British? yep Good looking boys? yep! Good album out? Yes all that toghetere with the suns that just went down made their perfomance a happy happening 7.5
Wild Beast
I love them, i love them, i love them they cannot do any wrong. 9+
Yes even though i love them so i am a realist. It's is always possible that their next performance can be worth that 10
Twin Shadow
they way they translated their album to the stage was amazing! the songs sounded different but still familiar. Oh i might fall in love with this band. 8

Dry the River - "Family Tree" from Gary King on Vimeo.

No pictures were made which is a shame but what can you do.
Well i can wait 6 months for the second edition of London Calling Festival and go with a camera i guess!

Sunday

Reality check

Dry the River -New Ceremony live at The Lexington

Reality hits hard, so hard it left a mark on my face that only i can see.
I didn't went to Walk The Line after all because of three reasons.
1. i didn't have enough money
2. my concert buddy wasn't around i think he forgot about it, but i kind of expected that from him
3. third and biggest reason because i was too worried about school.

I have so many things to finish that i'm too scared to make a list because i honestly believe that would take up all my time. That's how much i have to do.

I can only hope, dream and work towards to when this, the last school term of my first year is over i will have something good to close it with.
No worries and feelings of self doubt just a positive accomplished feeling that i did it. The knowledge that i can do this and be good at it.

Saturday

Back to life, back to reality

My vacation is over and even in Aruba and Curucao i didn't stop being busy with school.
I had an amazing time doing seeing and buying a bunch of nice things over there.
Straight after landing i gave my suitcase to my father to take home with him to go celebrate my oldest friend Cherrrelle's birthday, but that's another story.
Being back home just means i'll be spending more time doing my school work, not a bad thing because i'm just developing myself.

Talking about developing, the new Wild Beast album 'Smother' is amazing!

I'm glad i fell in love with them nearly 4 years ago when i heard 'Limbo, Panto'
Actually Wild Beast (the band) really are the only love i've had the last years.
Seeing them live was a bit of a rut/itch thing but the love never died and is even stronger with this album.

Crystal Fighters-I Do This Everyday

Little Comets/The Boxer Rebellion/Broken Records/Cloud Control/Cold War Kids/PVT/Creep/Royal Bangs/Crystal Fighters/The Subs/T3eth/The Deer Tracks/Erland and The Carnival/The Leisure Society/The Phantom Band/Hundreds/Thus:Owls/Idiot Glee/Wallis Bird

The weekend after it's time for my all time favourite indoor festival

London Calling Festival

20 may
Alex Winston, Ariel Pink’s Haunted Graffiti, Cat’s Eyes, Foster The People, Holy Ghost!, Rachel Sermanni, The Fresh & Only’s, The View, Wolf People en Braids and more

21 may
Wild Beasts, Twin Shadow, The Crookes, Sparrow And The Workshop, Flash Guns, Dry The River, Cults, Cloud Nothings, Ra Ra Riot, Ty Segall en Cloud Control.

Which way to turn when we're lost

Oh how i love Wild Beasts, you probably can guess i'm counting the 32 days unitl i see them at the London calling festival

I would really like that Wild Beasts t-shirt and this one is even on sale right now!
The artwork is the artwork from the 'We still Got The Taste Dancin' On Our Tongues' single.

It's on sale because their new album 'Smother' is to be released on May 9th on Domino, but probably will come out a bit later in The Netherlands.
I haven't seen any art from the new album so i'm very curious what that will look like.

Thursday

High summer contact

'Contact High' and 'Summer' are two songs that are in my ultimate summer songs list.
Too bad the sun isn't cooperating today...ah well only six day until i leave for my sunny holiday destination!

Cults-Go Outside

Volunteers only got one day to visit the festival and because i really wanted to see Lykke Li, i chose to only see her at Motel Mozaique.
This means i'll be missing Dum Dum girls for the third time and won't be able to see No age or Eklin after all.

I won a guest list spot and +1 to No Age thursday but had to give that away because i couldn't find anyone to fill the plus one spot.
you will not believe how disappointed i was, but those feelings went away when i heard that my H&M order was delivered.

Missing an amazing live concert for FREE was shit, but winning them in the first place is a sign that my luck is coming back.
Now i have my luck back and my perfect in between season coat.
